Position Summary
Performs essential tasks to support the work of Claims Examiners. Duties require knowledge and understanding of departmental procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
(These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA.)
- Intake of new workers’ compensation injuries by, fax, phone and email.
- Processes new claims packets.
- Creates, prints and distributes State forms for examiners.
- Answers questions from injured workers, policyholders and vendors.
- Completes and distributes form letters requested by the Examiners. At the Examiners direction, composes letters.
- Prepares defense files.
- Tasks as directed by the Examiner.
- Issues hand pays for bills from various vendors (i.e. attorney, medical management/vocational rehabilitation invoices).
- Maintains diaries/tasks.
- Processes return mail.
- At the Examiners direction, schedules medical appointments for injured workers.
- Pursues recovery of overpayments and maintains diary to ensure recovery received.
- Requests wage statements diary to ensure received.
- Indexes new mail.

Recommended Employment Qualifications
Education: This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) Experience: A minimum of three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires basic skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Required:
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write effective correspondence using proper business grammar.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to learn software applications and work within computer programs.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
