History
MCIM traces its roots to 1980 when contractors organized the Michigan
Commercial Insurance Self-Insurers' Fund (MCISIF), a workers'
compensation insurance program designed specifically for members of the
construction industry.
From 1980 through 1999, MCISIF developed and enhanced its
reputation for unparalleled customer service and value, and in
return, enjoyed steady growth in both the number of policyholders
as well as premium volume. Starting with 300 members, mostly
contractors, the company grew to over 3,350 policyholders near
the end of the century. Along the way, it became the largest self-insured group fund in the State, and the eleventh largest
writer of workers' compensation (out of 235 companies) in
Michigan. MCISIF distinguished itself as the leader in providing
workers' compensation coverage to the construction industry through its
emphasis on loss prevention, customer service, and fiscal soundness.
Building on its two decades of growth and success, MCISIF took the historic step of converting to a mutual insurance company, MCIM, on January 1, 2000—the first group fund in Michigan to achieve that distinction.
In 2001, MCIM diversified their services to include select manufacturers—a natural progression from the construction industry. Workers in plastics, tool and die and metal products manufacturing now benefit from MCIM’s professional focus.
MCIM expanded its reach, becoming a multistate carrier when it opened their Florida office in Sarasota on November 29, 2004.
Today, MCIM carries on the MCISIF tradition of helping employers manage risks, reduce claims and control costs. |
